UBC AUS STUDENT LOUNGE

UNIVERSITY OF BRITISH COLUMBIA, VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA

Inserted as an infill below an under-utilized portion of the 1960’s Buchanan building on the University of British Columbia campus, this project provided much-needed social meeting space and offices for the university arts student organization.

Design details and materials were inspired by the early modernist features of the principle building.

The transparency of the building was maintained by wrapping the whole program space within a glass enclosure, thus maintaining the views from the courtyard.

The project was completed under the predecessor firm, Marceau Evans Johnson Architects.

Recognized with a British Columbia Lieutenant Governor Merit Award, 2003.
